Janis Whipple, Nia Instructor & Reiki Practitioner

Janis’ favorite quote is “nature does not require that we be perfect, it requires that we grow”. (Liebman). A certified personal fitness trainer through the American Council on Exercise since 1995, Janis has made it her mission to guide others to find optimum health through personalized programs. Oftentimes this has required moving her clients beyond a perceived comfort zone, for that is when growth begins. When she discovered in 2012 the Nia Technique, a mind, body, spirit practice that teaches us each to move our own body’s way, she knew she had found the vehicle for personal growth that she would be passionate to share with others. And so she earned her Nia White Belt and began teaching Nia in 2013.

Janis was then led to the Reiki practice, another technique for helping others feel their best, ultimately earning her Master/Teacher Reiki certification. She loves blending the Reiki gift of healing, stress relief, and relaxation with the joy of movement and systemic, holistic conditioning experienced through Nia.

More About Janis:

Janis teaches Nia Dance on Tuesdays at 11:30am and Thursdays at 9am. See below for answers to some fun questions about Janis.

Q.- How did you first come to find Nia? About nine years ago while visiting Seattle, I was invited to attend a Nia class. I was surprised that I had never heard of the practice in that I had been at that time a personal fitness trainer for 17 years.

Q.- What are some key ways it has supported you in your life? Nia was the best discovery I ever made both professionally and personally, leading me to blend my fitness knowledge with the Nia philosophy as I worked with clients. I became more "in tune" with my body physically, mentally and emotionally, and my discomforts associated with degenerative discs, osteo-arthritis, three foot surgeries, and a rotator cuff repair were diminished or eliminated.

Q. What do you like most about teaching? I love sharing with others, particularly the "maturing woman" the many benefits of this holistic practice; I am 71 and credit Nia with helping me to be my best while respecting my body in its every stage.

Q- Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself? I also find time for playing guitar, singing, writing, reading and spending time with my now retired husband and our dog, Zoe, who makes us a family since both of our children live out of state (Colorado and Washington). My biggest passion is being a grandmother to Tim, 2 1/2, who will be joined by a second grandson in the spring.

Q- If you could learn anything new what would it be? A better understanding of technology in this current world. This would go a long way in helping me communicate with others more efficiently, plus my grandsons would consider me " with it"!

Q- Name something on your bucket list. Since I have traveled quite a bit already, my "big ask" is that I be able to visit my grandsons and my children more often, watching them enjoy their families and witnessing Tim and his younger brother grow. Of course it is important that I remain healthy and active....Nia will be central to that.
